Palaces in India – A Voyage through India’s Princely Heritage

India is known for its rich culture and heritage across the world. It is also a land of raja-maharajas, beauty, sanctity and legends. The entire land is dotted with numerous spellbinding ancient monuments. Moreover, the diverse mix of ethnicity, religion and traditions has paved way for several magnificent ancient palaces and forts in India. These ancient palaces tend to portray larger than life magnificence and opulence. Breathtaking architecture and design of these palaces tend to strike a chord with the people immediately. Ancient palaces can be easily explored in almost all the regions of the country. Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Delhi are home to some of the finest palaces in India. Both domestic and international tourists get a chance to explore some of the most fascinating palaces in these states.

Agra Fort is a mesmerizing monument situated on the banks of Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh. It is acknowledged as a unique World Heritage Site. The fort was built by Akbar, the famous Mughal Emperor. Aurangzeb, Jehangir, Humayun and Shah Jahan used to live in Agra Fort. The massive fort was made from red sandstone. Agra Fort portrays immense splendor, style and elegance, houses spectacular apartments like Anguri Bagh, Diwan-E-Khas, Sheesh Mahal and Diwan-E-Aam.

City Palace located in the Pink City-Jaipur is famous for its rich ancient architecture and elegance. It is an exquisite palace that houses stately belongings of the maharajas. City Palace is an unbelievable combination of Mughal and Rajput architecture. Incredible wall paintings, crystal objects, mirror works, and frescoes tend to fascinate the minds of the people.

Hyderabad, the city of Nawab’s has a charming monument known as Golconda. Golconda Fort depicts immense majesty and grandeur. Though, primarily built using mud, the fort was completely renovated to an impressive construction with stone walls and granite. Tourists can easily explore the intricately designed fort, armory and mosque as well.

Red Fort located in Delhi is replete with ancient grandeur and greatness. People get amazed by the sheer beauty and splendor of Red Fort. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The monument comes under the World Heritage Site. Red Fort has enthralling blocks that were once engraved with precious gems and stones. The spectacular sound and light show conducted in the evening truly enhances the overall charm of Red Fort.
