Few words about Indian Passport and its offices:
A passport declares the identity and nationality of an individual. It is issued by the national government mainly for the purpose of international travel. The identity section declares evidence towards the name, date of birth, sex, place of birth and address of the person. The nationality and citizenship are the same in most cases. An Indian passport is issued only to a citizen of India, which validates his Indian nationality, by the Consular Passport & Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs. The CPV Division functions as the central passport organisation of India. Thirty- seven locations in the country and one hundred-sixty Indian missions abroad are authorised to issue Indian passports. There are three categories of passports- Regular passports, Diplomatic passports and Official passports. Regular passports have a deep blue/black cover and are issued for the purpose of ordinary travel, like business trips and vacations. They come in two variants, namely, ordinary that has thirty- six pages or jumbo that has sixty pages. Diplomatic passports have a maroon cover and are issued to Indian diplomats, top ranking government officials and diplomatic couriers. Official passports are in a white cover which are issued to the Indian government on official business.
Fees:
The cost of obtaining a standard Indian passport with thirty- six pages and ten year validity is Rs. 1000. A passport of sixty pages with the same validity costs Rs. 1500. However, a passport for minors (below the age of fifteen) with validity of five years or till the minor attains the age of eighteen, whichever is earlier, is Rs. 600. A duplicate passport in case of Lost, stolen or damaged passport containing thirty- six pages costs Rs. 2500. Similarly, a duplicate passport of sixty pages costs Rs 3000.
Tatkaal Passport Fees:
Under the Tatkaal process, a fresh passport can be obtained within one - seven days from the date of application for Rs. 2500 (Rs 1500 and the passport fees of Rs 1000). For Rs. 2000 (Rs. 1000 and the passport fees of Rs. 1000) it can be obtained within eight - fourteen days from the date of application. A duplicate passport in case of Lost, stolen or damaged passport can be obtained within one - seven days from the date of application for Rs. 5000 (Rs. 2500 plus the duplicate passport fee of Rs. 2500) and within eight - fourteen days from the date of application for Rs. 4000 (Rs. 1500 plus the duplicate passport fee of Rs. 2500). For re- issue cases after the expiry of ten year validity, the cost amounts to Rs. 2500 (Rs. 1500 and the passport fee of Rs. 1000). Indian passports are also issued outside India and the costs vary as per the country.
