Tirupathur is a taluk panchayet town of Sivaganga district in Tamilnadu, India. It has an average elevation of 88 meters. Tirupathur is sited at Sivaganga district, around 27 kms from Sivaganga tehsil and around 22kms away from Karaikudi tehsil. The tehsil is very famous for its Shiva temple. It attracts a lot of pilgrims and tourists daily. According to the legend, once Goddess Mahalakshmiwished to have a darshan of Lord Shiva's dance. Lord Shiva accepted her request and told her that she can have a sight of his dance at this tehsil.Accordingly lord Shiva exposed one of his Cosmic Dance known as Gowri Thandavam to Goddess Mahalakshmi here. Sri Thiruthalinathar Swamy Temple, Sri Ninra Narayanaperumal Temple, Sri Angaala Parameshwari Temple and Sri Kondrai Siddar are some of the ancient remarkable temples here.

According to the 2001 census, Tirupathur has a very good literacy rate. The tehsil has many good schools and colleges. Pillaiyarpatti which is situated near Tirupathur, has the famous Karpaka vinayakar temple. This is one of the tourist spots here. Besides Vettangudi bird sanctuary is also located near Tirupathur. This sanctuary is the natural habitat of winter migrant and inhabited birds. It is a safe place for resting, breeding and feeding also.
