Arasikere is one of the taluka and town in the district of Hassan in the Karnataka state,in India. This area is also known for the production of coconut and the hill named as Malekallu Tirupathi. This town,has been the headquarters of the taluka, it also has the major junction of railways on South Western Railways, & is the central place of attraction for all the tourists who visit different places close by which don't have railway access, as for e.g. Halebidu (25 km), Belur (40 km) and Shravanabelagola (75 km). History states that Arasikere was been one of the important town while the Hoysala rule was there and this term Arasikere came from a princesses of this Hoysala dynasty, who have built one lake. Arasi itself means queen in language Kannada. Hence 'Arasiya+kere' meant to 'queen's-pond'. |
