Arkalgud, also has another name Arakalagudu which is the panchayat town and is one of the 8 taluks of district Hassan in Karnataka of India. This town is located around 30 km away from Hassan and 195 kms. from the city of Bangalore. The Hemavati river forms the complete boundary the northern of this Taluk; the Kaveri river runs through one portion of south. This is been well connected by roadways to different other towns and cities of the Karnataka city. The most nearest railway station is Holenarasipura till Arakalgud taluk and Mangalore being the nearest airport. It is believed that Gautama rishi had performed penance to God Sun (Surya) and installed an idol of Arkeshwara, who is presiding deity of local in Arkeshwara temple and originall this town was called Arkapuri. From here the term Arkalgud got into existence. |
