Anjar is the name of mandal under Kachchh district of Gujarat state in country India which had faced a great disaster in the form of earthquake and was served as a capital three times.

Anjar tehsil is situated in the Kachchh district of Gujarat State in the country India. The landscape of this area is sandy and dry and it totally depends on very well irrigation water. This place is located nearly ten miles from the place known as Gulf in Kachchh. This tehsil had served as a capital for three times. Twice this place was capital in the period of Vikram Samvant 862 and thirdly it became capital in the period of Maharao Khengarji in 1602. This tehsil has a history of approximately fourteen hundred years and is considered to be the oldest town of Kachchh district.

In the year 1819 this place was badly suffered from the earthquake which affected thousands of houses as well as there was a loss of many lives. However, according to census department the population in 1901 was 18014. This tehsil was in the control of British in the year 1816 but in the year 1822 this place was again transferred to Government of Kutch on the annual payment agreement. In the year 1956 this place again severely affected by an earthquake and this time it was the epicentre of this earthquake which causes destruction of many houses and several lives were ended in this destruction.
