It is the administrative headquarters of Hamirpur district. Recently in the railway budget 2010, the minister of railways Mamta Benarji has announce survey of Hamirpur Road (Baripal)-Hamirpur line which is a good step for better connectivity of Hamirpur with Kanpur.

History:

During Akbar’s reign the district of Hamirpur was divided between two suba. In order to organize different activities of congress Jawaharlal Nehru paid visit in 1937 during which district also actively participated in the elections.

According to the district statistical department the district covered an area of 4121.9 sq. km. District is located at longitude 79 degree East and latitude 25 degree north. It has an average elevation of 80 meters.
