Aligarh is located 140 km south east of Delhi. It is considered to be the administrative headquarters of Aligarh District, Aligarh Police Range and Aligarh Division. It is also well known for Aligarh Muslim University. Aligarh is considered to be one of the metro cities of Uttarpradesh. Aligarh is amongst the largest manufacturers and suppliers of locks and hardware goods in India and is also one of the largest manufacturers of brass fittings.

History:

During 18th century, Aligarh was initially known as Kol which has been referred to in the sense of a tribe or caste, name of a place or mountain and name of a sage or demon. During the reign of Akbar Kol was made a Sirkar and included the dasturs of Marahra. On 1 September 1803 the battle of Aligarh was fought. With the addition of Anupshahr from Moradabad and Sikandra Rao from Etawa along with the union of British divisions Aligarh district was formed in 1804.

Geography:

Longitude is 78 degree east, latitude 27 degree north and height 178 meters above the sea level. The city is located between the land of Ganga and Yamuna Rivers.

There are some famous places like Aligarh fort and Sir Syed Masjid. Aligarh is also known as  city of temples, divided into two parts: one old Aligarh based Gilahraaj ji ( Hanumaan Ji ) in Achal Taal and another one is  Khereshwar Temple ( Lord Shiva ) on Khair road near Nanda Bridge, Sai Baba Mandir Sarsoul and many more.
