Kovur tehsil is a mandal in the district of Spsr Nellore in the state of Andhra Pradesh in india. The town of kovur forms the headquarters and is also the census town of the tehsil. The average elevation in the tehsil of kovur is found to be 15 mts and the coordinates are 14.4833N 79.9833E. The town of Kovur in this tehsil is one among the assembly constituencies for the state of Andhra Pradesh and is also the largest in the Nellore district. There were about 2,53, 095 registered voters in the kovur constituency in the year 2009.

Being close to the city of Nellore, the tehsil of kovur is usually considered to be a part of the suburbs of Nellore, which is about 3.5 kms away. Kovur mandal is not only an agriculture based tehsil, but it is also the rice bowl of Nellore, which is famous for the Nellore Molagolukulu, the rice with the nice fragrance of jasmine flower. From this region, jasmine flowers were exported to france in the old days. Thikkanna, the scholar credited with the translation of the Mahabharata into Telugu was born in this region.

There are also some industries in the region, such as the Nellore Thermal Power Station, at about 5 kms from Nellore. There is also another sugar factory and a new Granite production company. Many students have achieved good results from the local schools of the region and have gone abroad for higher education.
