Karauli, is an eastern district in Rajasthan State. The district of Dholpur lies to the east, Bharatpur lies to the north-east, Dausa to the north and Sawai Madhopur to the west. River Chambal flows from the south-eastern side of the district. The highest point the district is 1400 mts above sea level. The total area of the district is 5530 sq. km.

Karauli was founded in 1348 by Yaduvanshi Rajput, Raja Arjun Pal. The original name of the region was Kalyanpuri. The palace constructed in 14th century and it remained as the official residence of the royal family till 1938. There are more than 300 temples in this place.

Karauli city is famous for its pale red structures which are evident of a colorful past. The places in and around the city are also worth exploring. Some areas include Bhanwar Vilas Palace, Karauli City Palace, Timangarh Fort, Kalla Devi Sanctuary, etc.

• Bhawar Vilas Palace: Bhawar Vilas Palace was constructed in the year 1938 by Ganesh Pal Deo Bahadur. The palace was the official royal residence. The design of the palace reflects the Colonial style.
• Karauli City Palace: Karauli City Palace was constructed in the 14th century. The 600 year old structure is a magnificent construction which served as the official royal residence until 1938. The royal family built Bhawar Vilas Palace and moved into the new palace. But, Karauli City Palace remains to be one of the biggest attractions in the city.
• Kalyani Devi National Park: Kalyani Devi National Park is located 25 Km from Karauli city. The National park is home to animals such as leopard, Chinkara, jackal, sloth bear, hyena, wolf and Sambhar. The park was also part of Project Tiger.
