Sikar is a city situated in the region of Shekhawati in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It has been regarded as the administrative headquarters of the district of Sikar. It is one of the historical cities containing various ancient Havelis in Mughal style architecture which catches the fancy of large number of tourists. It has a distance of about 114 km from city of Jaipur and is 320 km away from Jodhpur.

History

Sikar is the part of Jhunjhunu as well as Shekhawati and comprises of the largest Thikana of the state of Jaipur and has rule of Shekhawats there. Sikar had been the capital of Thikana Sikar. Its surroundings are covered with high walls comprising of 7 Pols. The old name of Sikar had been Beer Bhan Ka Bass.

Geography and Climate

Sikar is located in eastern parts of Rajasthan and consists of mean elevation of 427 metres .

Sikar consists of a hot and semi arid climate where rains are seen in the months of monsoon from June to September. There are temperatures found usually high all round the year with months of summer i.e. April-July experiencing about 30 C. The highest temperatures are found in months of May and June reaching around 50 C with just little upto no humidity.
