Etawah: a brief history-

The city of Etawah is situated on the banks of river Yamuna and is the administrative headquarters of the district of the same name. The district of Etawah took part in the famous revolution or the first war of independence, the revolt of 1857. It is a sheer coincidence in that when there was revolt of 1857, at the same time; Mr A.O. Hume was the district collector there who later on founded the Indian National Congress which was instrumental in compelling the British to leave India in 1947.

Demography of Etawah-

As per the census of 2001, the population of Etawah was around .2 million and it is 197 m above the sea level. The district is full of fissures over which many bridges and embankments connect the roads. It is lying southwest of Utter Pradesh at 26.47N and 72.20 E. The major portion of the district lies in the region of Doab between the rivers of Ganges and Yamuna so there is plenty of greenery. There are two sections of district divided by valley of river Senger.

The modern Etawah-

It is true that Etawah was witnessing modernization and development during the British era as well as it also on the track after independence. The region is very fertile because there is ample scope of irrigation because of the canals of Ganges. The main produces are Cotton, oilseeds, and other milk and agricultural products and at the same time these produce and some special breeds of buffalo and goats are also exported. Though the industrial base is lacking, there is a gas based 650 MW power plant. There a plenty of handlooms which are now converted into power looms.
