Sivaganga is a municipality of Sivaganga district in Tamilnadu. It is also known as Sivagangai. The tehsil is a first grade municipality and administrative headquarters of Sivaganga district. The tehsil has an average elevation of 102 meters. The climate here is moderate and very healthy. The town gets its major rainfall from the northeast monsoon. According to the 2001 census, the tehsil had a moderate literacy rate which is higher than the national average literacy rate. The economy of Shivaganga depends on graphite business, agriculture, sugar industry and solar power farm. Graphite is one of the most common resources in Shivaganga. It is used as an industrial oil and a moderator in nuclear reactors.The majority of this tehsil depends on agriculture. The major crop here is paddy rice. As the tehsil has red soil, the other crops developed here are groundnuts, sugarcanes, pulses, millets and cereals. Besides many sugar industries and solar power farms are situated here.

Sivaganga is well connected to NH85, NH226 and SH34. The State Transport Corporation operates long-distance buses to Coimbatore, Chennai and other cities of the state from Sivaganga bus-stand. The Shivagangai railway station is located in the eastern side of the town. Several express trains and local trains are passing through this station and connects to different cities. The nearest airport is Madurai International airport which is around 40 kms away from this tehsil.
