Wardha is a city to be found in Wardha District. It is also a municipal council and administrative headquarters of District Wardha. Wardha gets its name from river Wardha which runs at the West, North and South borders of district. It is founded in 1866 and it is the prominent centre for the cotton business. According to the survey of 2011 the population of the city is about 1,296,157 and it is divided into Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims with a little percentage of Jains, Sikhs and Christians. In Wardha District 11 percent of the total population is below 6 years of age. 52 percent is the contribution of Males and 48 percent is for females. Hindi and Marathi languages are the mother tongue of the city. The city is famous for various educational colleges. Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Science, Jawhar Lal Nehru Medical College is famous among them.
