Bhiwandi, a city in district Thane is sited 20 km to the north-east of Mumbai and 15 km to the north-east of Thane city. There are lots of hills near Bhiwandi, which add to its picturesque looks and are the source of fascination for tourists. Tehsil Bhiwandi is renowned for Textile Industries and has the biggest number of power looms. A major populace of Tehsil is working in the power loom business. In earlier 20th century Bhiwandi was a petite town and was populated with Konkani Muslims and Maharashtrians. Their key source of earning was agriculture.
