Dhrangadhra is a City in Dhrangadhra tehsil of Surendranagar district in Gujarat State, which was once the capital of Dhrangadhra state, among the eight first-class princely states claiming 13 gun salutes in the Bombay Presidency of British raj, in its Kathiawar agency, having been founded in 1090AD as Jhalawad State, while during 1735AD, this place was renamed as Dhrangadhra by the Jhala Rajputs who were ruling this region then, while Dhrangadhra tehsil today encompasses 63 villages.

Dhrangadhra tehsil is the highest developing taluk in Gujarat State today, housing the largest soda ash plant in India, DCW Ltd, an army cantonment. many cotton ginning factories, a newly formed Plywood factory, besides the fact that there is a famous temple of God Swaminarayan and another famous temple Jogasar for Lord Ganesh appearing as Dada Ekdanta.

This tehsil extends good educational facilities, through Shri Swaminarayan High School, extended by Shri Narayandev Education Trust, many other famous schools for kinder garten, Primary, HighSchool, Higher Secondary and Graduate education, such as SSP Jain College, Mahavir B.Ed college, K.M. Boys' and Girls' Highschool, Shishukunj Vidhyalaya, Ajitsinhji Vidyalaya and few others.
