The district of Ranga Reddy was formed on 15th. August 1978. The district is spread over an area of seven thousand four hundred ninety three Square Kilometers.

Initially, it was named Hyderabad Rural. Subsequently, it was named K.V. Ranga Reddy after the name of Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy. Later on, the name changed to Ranga Reddy.

Osman Sagar, the fresh water reservoir on river Musi, situated at Gandipet near this district is the main source of drinking water of Hyderabad. Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple located in this district is one of the most sacred places of Hindus. The district is the commercial centre of agriculture produce and finished products.

The climate of the district is tropical. Summer is extremely hot and winter is pleassant.

Cement Corporation of India has set up cement factory in the District and Hyderabad chemicals and fertilizers has established their fertilizer factory. Acharya N.G Ranga Agricultural University is having its campus at Rajendranagar of Ranga Reddy district.

The population pattern of Ranga Reddy is quite identical to that of the capital city of the state. The major of the population consists of the Hindus, the Muslims and the Christians. Both Telugu and Urdu are spoken by the people of this district.
