History
Moreover, this has been flourished as the trading centre and this was under the rule of Mughals. However, this city was known by the name of Pataliputra and has mainly gained its prominence during Mauryan dynasty. The Mughals had arrived in Pataliputra in the year 1574. It was during this time only when Akbar, the great king, was leading his army against the chief Afghan Daud Khan. The city started prospering under the commercial influence and also in terms of architecture. Among the different monuments that had been constructed during this Mughal reign is a Mosque. This was constructed by Shah Jahan as well as his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, on the banks of River Ganges. Aurangzeb, Mughal ruler who was inspired by Muhammad Azim, his grandson, had a deep desire for developing Patna into the city and that would be as grand as New Delhi. Sher Suri also a ruler had constructed the palace through river and its walls have been incorporated in Jalan House. This is now a museum located in Patna and it has rare collections of Chinese paintings.
