Rajwada Palace
The Rajwada Palace is in the main area of the city known as Lalbagh, in the middle of the city. The Rajwada Palace has a garden where queen Ahilyabai's statue is kept inside it. The facade of the Rajwada palace which surrounds the gateway reflects like a wizard's castle.
Rajwada Palace is Indore's historical Palace. It was constructed two centuries before by Holkar. It is a seven storeyed building like structure which looks like a royal grandeur. It is one of the finest architectural styles which are found near Chhatris. The palace is divided into two structures which comprises of one at the city’s center and the other in the city's old part.
In 2006, H.H Ushadevi Holkar, the Maharani of Indore renovated the Palace. Not many changes were made in the style yet the efforts were made in order to enhance the palace's beauty. At present, art exhibitions along with the classical concerts of music are being conducted in the Palace.
History
The Palace is 200 years old and with remarkable and elegant looks which attracts a large number of tourists. The Palace 7 stories high is made up of stone at the lower 3 floors, the upper stories are made up of wood and there is also a garden where a fountain with waterfall can be seen. Rajwada Palace was destroyed by fire in the year 1894 for three times but still it holds its value and appearance which attracts a large number of visitors and tourists from across the globe. It offers a wonderful glimpse of the Palace from the cities tantamount area which cannot be forgotten easily. The Rajwada Palace has been also nominated for the world heritage awards, UNESCO.
Architecture
The architectural style of the Palace is the Indo-Saracenic Maratha style. It has an elevation of 553 m which is equal to 1814 feet. The Palace is a multi-storied building with 7 floors and the most attractive part of the Palace is its entrance which is wooden, all covered and decorated with iron. There are various rooms inside the Palace and a Ganesha Hall having balconies and windows. The three floors on the lower part of the Palace are of dark brown color. The above floors have white colored windows which look like a fortress when looked down.
The tourists who visit the Palace observe the Maratha, Mughal and French style architect. The Palace has been transformed and taken the view of a garden after being destroyed by fire several times. It was renovated and rebuilt again by H.H Ushadevi Holkar and again the Palace took its form. To redesign the fort, Shreya Bhargava and Himanshu Dudwadkar were called and by 2007 the Palace was completed by becoming India’s first building of getting reconstructed by the same previously used method, style and material.
Visitors Information
The Palace is open throughout the year for the visitors. In any season of the year, the palace can be visited but during the visiting hours. During summers, visitors usually avoid to visit Rajwada due to climatic condition which reaches up to 45 degrees. The months from October to March are the best months to visit the Palace.
There is no entry fees inside the Palace and no pets are allowed to take inside.
The opening and closing time of the palace is same throughout the week and the weekend that is 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the evening.

Indore's Ahilyabai Airport is the closest airport to visit the Palace by air. It is connected with several big cities and it is easy to avail this facility.
