Brundaban Palace was built by the Maharaja of Paralakhemundi for use during summer. It is situated on the banks of river Mahendratanaya surrounded by thick teak trees. The art engraved in this palace is worth seeing.
It is located in Gajapati district close to Paralakhemundi. This palace is a wonderful piece of ancient architecture sited on the riverbank of Mahendratanaya River.
The Palace is a very magnificent monument with stunning artworks on the walls. A beautiful orchard is also located near the palace.
This palace is currently totally contributed to the Indian government and is used as an educational centre. Colleges like SKCG College and IGNOU conducts their classes at the Brundaban Palace.
History
Krushna Chandra Gajapati was born on 26 April 1892 and died on 25 May 1974. He was commonly famous as Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayana Dev and was a crucial character in the creation of a liberated Odisha State. He is viewed as the planner of the current Odisha state. The existing Gajapati District of Odisha was christened after him. He was the Symbolic Head in the First World War.
The Brundaban Palace was built by the ancestors of Maharaja Krushna Chandra.
Architecture
This palace is a 3 storeyed structure which has a secret hall and a subversive passageway that links to the chief citadel of the Maharaja. The palace includes an underground floor connecting it with the main palace of the Maharaja. It is believed that this secret passage was used by the royal family to hide during attacks from enemies.
There are exquisite eye-catching works of art on the parapet of Brundaban palace. A stunning woodlet is also situated close to Brundaban Palace. The beautiful artwork in all sections of the palace are a must see.
Best Time to Visit
The best period to holiday in the city of Bhubaneswar or the Gajapati area is from October to March. March to May is parched and can be shunned for visits. June to September is decent for sightseeing for those who like showery trips. October to February is very enjoyable and suggested for tourism trips and getaways.
Visitor Information
The Palace is now donated to the Governments Education Department and P.G. Classes of S.K.C.G College are held in this building. The administrative office of the IGNOU center is also functioning in this building.
There is a beautiful orchard near to the palace. People of Paralakhemundi and its nearby towns visit this place during winter for picnic as well as for its scenic beauty.

By Air
Located at a distance of about 5 km from the city center, Biju Patnaik airport at Bhubaneswar is well linked to Delhi and Mumbai. The fare by taxi is about Rs. 100. Most international connections are available via New Delhi.
By Rail
Bhubaneswar railway station is roughly 6 km away from the center of the city. This terminus is well-linked to the metropolises and also to Delhi by Duronto Exp, Kolkata, by Falaknuma Exp, Hyderabad by Konark Express, Chennai by Coromandal Exp, Mumbai by Puri Ltt Sf Exp. and Bangalore by Ypr Sup Exp.
By Road
The main cities of Bhubaneswar are well connected from the New Bus Stand, situated about 6 kms away from the center of town. Regular bus service connects Bhubaneswar to Puri 56 km away and Konark 36 km away.
