Martyrdom Of Guru Arjan Dev Ji
Guru Arjan Dev Ji was fifth Guru Granth Sahib; he was the first to be a Martyr of Sikh society who sacrifices himself for Sikh society hence he was acknowledged as Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the youngest son of Guru Ram Das and mother Bibi Bhani and was born in Punjab. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was living like a Sikh through the centuries after the completed building Amritsar he invented other cities like Taran Taran and Kartarpur. Guru Arjan Dev Ji biggest contribution to the Sikh community is writing the Guru Granth Sahib by compiling the preaching of all Gurus and writing it in one holy book.
Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the one who invented masand system in which a collectively people spread the preaching among others and contributing part of the Sikh community income in form of money, service and goods to support in Gurudwara where they offer Langar. Langar is a proper meal served in Gurudwara with love and respect and is cooked by supporters of Sikh community.
History
Guru Arjan Dev Ji created Amritsar and made Amritsar as a pilgrim place for Sikh community. Guru Arjan Dev Ji wrote huge amount of scripture in the holy book Sukhmani Sahib. He was also an illustrator in spiritual and moral behaviour in the Sikh community. Guru Arjan Dev Ji assisted villages in tunnelling wells which watered their farms.
Mughal Emperor Jahangir was very much aggravated for Many Muslims to be converted in to Sikh. Guru Arjan Dev Ji mentioned a lot about Hinduism and Muslim in the book for which Mughal emperor Jahangir ordered to eliminate the details of Islam and after he denied Mughal emperor ordered to penalised and torture Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
In seventeen and eighteen century many contentious reports where displayed in regards to the demise of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. In the year 1740Chaupa Singh companion of Guru Arjan Dev Ji held Chandu Shah responsible for getting Guru Arjan Dev Ji detained and after Guru Arjan Dev Ji rejected the offer of the marriage with the daughter of Chandu Shah.
As scripted in Jesuits by Jerome Xavier who witness the session during his stay in Lahore that Sikhs succeeded to get Mughal Emperor Jahangir to convert the death sentence of Guru Arjan Dev Ji in exchange with a huge fine. Guru Arjan Dev refused to pay fine for which he was tortured by Jahangir and accepted the Martyrdom.
Celebrations & Rituals
Guru Granth Sahib Endores the equality among Sikh community with the fact the we all are made up of same flesh, bones and body. On the day of Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji special prayer is observed in the Gurudwara with the Langar a special meal made by the supporters of Sikh community and is served to all the visitors free in Gurudwara.
