Guru Ravidass Jayanti
Guru Ravidass Jayanti is a festival which is celebrated by the community of Ravidass. It is rejoiced as an occasion of the Birthday of Guru Ravidass on the full moon day of magh Poornima i.e. in the month of February 7th.
History
Guru Ravidass was a guru from India in fifteenth century. He was respected in some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. He was social religious improver, a philosopher and Theosophist. He was also a good poet and use to travel around the world. Guru Ravidass was from the chamar cast also known as a shoe maker. His religious singles were also included in the Holy book of Sikh community. Guru Ravidass was rebellious in that his devoutness implicit was levelling of the social separations of class and gender. Yet he was able to promote the crossing of religious in the name of religion.
Guru Ravidass educated that one is eminent not by its class i.e. Jaati but by its behaviour or actions i.e. karma and he believes that every person has a right to visit the shrine or temple and also read the sacred books. He unlocked the forward attack against the structure of no-touching. He never accepted the customs of Brahmins intermediaries to get in touch with the god. He taught people that not to keep the caste secretive to reach god. Guru Ravidass became a role model for all his companions to overcome the obstacles of Brahmin culture. He invented Begumpura fearless and grief-free State. Guru Ravidass raised the rank of the labour by highlighting the facts the honesty is the key for success.
Celebrations & Rituals
On Guru Ravidass Jayanti a special recitation of Guru Granth Saheb ji is held. The special symbol known as Nishaan is ritualistically changed on the day of Guru Ravidass Jayanti. Special spiritual songs are conducted followed with the procession holding the picture of Guru Ravidass is carried out through the local streets around the temple.
In some places devotees take a sacred dip on the occasion of Guru Ravidass Jayanti. Every year a splendid celebration of Guru Ravidass Jayanti is held in Varanasi in which lac of pilgrims participate from across the country.
The preaching’s of Shri Guru Ravidass were attempted toshape in the book which is called amritbani; there are around forty such shabds or words which are of Guru Ravidass.
