Chatragrih Yojna
Chatragrih Yojna is a State Government initiative launched by Chhattisgarh Government to provide accommodation at urban settings to the SC and ST students who could not be given berth in Government Hostels or rented houses in city areas. This is a programme coming under the Ministry of the Tribal development and it is available for 5 or more students who require accommodation. This facility is however available for students who are in 11th Standard and above, including those in University Education.
Evolution
This Scheme was introduced on 1st July 2004 and will be valid for 12 years upto 30th June 2016.
The Government of India announces its Welfare Schemes on various aspects to different cross sections of the society from time to time. These schemes are funded and administered by the Central Government directly or by the State Government. In many cases, it would be a joint responsibility for both State and Central Government. This particular Scheme Chatragrih Yojana is a State Government sponsored Scheme under its tribal welfare measures. As the Government found that there are inadequacies for the students of higher standards and college education, belonging to the Tribal communities, this scheme is launched in 2004 to be operated for 12 years.
Provisions
This Scheme is available for
- SC/ST students only and when they are not able to enroll in any of the Government Hostels for their stay during education.
- Among them only students of 11th Standard and above, including those studying in Colleges are eligible to avail the facilities under the scheme.
- There should be at least 5 students to avail a house allotted by the Government for their stay.
- The State Government takes care of the water and electricity charges besides the rent for the house allotted to the residents under this Scheme.
- Applications for availing this scheme should be sent to the Government through the Assistant Commissioner of Tribal Welfare and District Organizer.
Implementation
Chhattisgarh is implementing as many as 24 Welfare schemes for the benefit of education, residential facilities for those undergoing education and similar measures, of which Chatragrih Yojana is intended exclusively for the SC/ST students of 11th Standard and above, particularly in Urban Cities where accommodation in Government Hostels is available to a limited extent. The Government supplements this residential facility for the students by renting houses for the accommodation of Students and the Scheme is operating effectively since 2004.
