Yojanas In India
Government of India has launched a number of welfare schemes to be administered by the Central or State Governments, which are named as Yojanas mostly indicating the objective of the scheme in the title of each scheme. These Schemes are coming under a separate Ministry of the Government and the operation of the schemes will be either exclusively run by the State or run under the joint partnership of the Centre and the State.
Salient Features of Different Yojanas
Basically, these Government Schemes are categorized on the basis of particular welfare theme, such as Rojgar Yojana, Shiksha Yojana, Health Yojana, Insurance Yojana, Anaaj Yojana and Yojana for Girls etc, a number of schemes coming under each of these classifications, launched by the Central and State Governments, according to the needs of the Society. Some of the popular Yojanas are the following:
- Prime Minister Rozgar Yojana, announced on Independence Day of 1993, is intended to promote self-employment of youth, targeting to create one million jobs to accommodate the jobless persons in India. This scheme providing opportunity for those individuals between the age of 18 and 40, has also absorbed the earlier Scheme for the Educated Unemployed Youth, to avoid duplication of activities.
- Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a Yojana which has a mission of universalization of basic teaching by addressing the need of 192 million children of the country, belonging to one point one million habitations. The scheme was launched for improving school infrastructure, as well as quantity and quality of teaching staff in 2001.
- Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, a State Plan Scheme with Central Assistance launched in 2007, is having the objective of boosting the agricultural output by implementing modern and scientific methods in every rural setting, rightly identified by the respective State Government.
- Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana, which was introduced in 2010 provides cash incentives to women up to Rs. 4000to support their maternity expenses for the first two live births.
Current Status of Yojanas
All the Yojana Schemes are marching ahead with desired results achieved significantly. Launching of Unique identification of Indian Citizen under Aadhar plan in 2009 is another land mark of Yojanas in India. New and novel schemes such as the pension and insurance scheme under Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojana for the benefit of Indian workers working in Dubai have been introduced. In this Scheme, provisions are made for the workers of Indian origin in ECR category abroad are made for adequate savings for their retired life when they return to India.
Likewise, the Government of India has brought on May 1, 2013, the National Urban Health Mission with the objective of reducing infant mortality rate and to assist reproductive health care.
