Central Government Health Scheme
In 1954, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India started the scheme named as Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) and the aim of this scheme was giving the medical health care facilities to the employees working for the Central Government, providing pension to them and their family members who are dependent on them and staying in the cities that are covered under CGHS.
This scheme was originated in 1954 at the city of Delhi. Later, the services of CGHS were made available in the 17 cities and these city lists includes Allahabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, West Bengal, Patna, Kanpur, Guwahati, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Chennai, Nagpur, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram.
The facility of CGHS was given to the following people who reside in the cities listed under CHGS:-
- The employees of central government who receive their remunerations from the civil estimates but does not include the people who work for the Railway department, people working for Delhi Administrative offices not including the Delhi Police Force employees.
- People receiving their pensions from the civil estimates along with their family members who are eligible for receiving the pension.
- Person who have been members of Parliament including the ex-parliament members.
- People who have been Freedom Fighters.
- The other people eligible for this are ex-governors and the ex- Vice President of the country.
There are a total of 254 allopathic dispensaries, 19 number of polyclinics and 78 Ayush dispensaries from where medical facility can be availed by these employees.
