Kumbhoj
Kumbhoj has been an ancient town situated in the district of Kolhapur in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is 18 km away from Hatkanangale. It is a popular Jain Tirtha called as Bahubali, and is merely 2 km distant from the city of Kumbhoj. Kumbhoj is also called as Kumboj. It is the standard name spotted in several old Pali and Sanskrit texts.
History
In the second century BCE, there was a group of Kambojas who had come here from Central Asia, in alliance with the Pahlavas and Sakas, they are said to have gone to southern and western parts of India. There is a microscopic Jain community here. Kumbhoj had been an ancient village visited by Devi Shakambari and therefore there is a Devi Shakambari temple near Badami. Kumbhoja has references in Holy Ramayana. It is seen that Shakambari Mandir has a need of cultivation by Archeological Survey of India.
People have a belief that the idol in this temple is a miraculous one. It had been almost 250 years when an ascetic saint, Shri Bahubali Maharaj, had lived here who had some scientific spells because of which no type of violent animals could cause harm to the pilgrims. The place has been named so to cherish his memories. Then in 1851 AD, Muni Shri Prabhachandraji, came up and visited this sacred place. It was in 1937 when Chaturmas Vaktavya had been delivered from here and there was premier holy pilgrimage to this great holy place begun from here.
Architecture
The Kumbhoj Bahubali consists of an amazing 6 feet idol of lord Bahubali made in an artistic manner and was installed in 1156 AD on the Vaishakh Shukla day with the help of Shri 108 Shrut Sagarji Maharaj, an ascetic saint. There is a beautiful colossus of marble which is 1008 Shri Bahubali, and has a height of 8 Feet being installed here in the proximity of hills in the year 1963.

How to Reach
By Road
One can reach Kambhoj easily by Bus, taxi or Car and one may easily avail the bus facilities from Hatkadngale. There are several Jeeps and cars for Kumbhoj passing by from Bahubali. There are several state transport buses run by Maharashtra government for the devotees who visit Kambhoj for the purpose of worship.
By Train
If somebody is interested in reaching there by Train then Kolhapur railway station is merely 30 KM away while Hatkadngale station is 8 KM. There are several trains running to and fro and may be express trains or passenger trains.
By Air
The closest airport is that of Kolhapur and is only 30 km away from the Kambhoj city.
