Sikkim Lachung Monastery
The Lachung Village which is at about 120 kms from Gangtok on the north eastern highway of Sikkim is just before the Indo China border which also served a trade point between Indian and China before Sikkim’s joining India in 1950. However, one has to visit Northern part of Sikkim with due permits and a mask dance held every year marks the famous cultural value of this region. A notable activity near this area is the Skiing in Phuni (near this place) every year.
Founded by
This monastery was founded by Nyingmapa Buddhist Gompa and Lachung monastery is a very old monastery and we can see murals paintings of Buddhist with colorful presentations and also big prayer wheels numbering two and people take up various religious and regular routine practices of their religion here.
Description
Very nice Apple orchards can be around this place, which gives more beauty to the monastery with a wonderful view of the nearby countryside areas and the whole Lachung Valley. This monastery also holds various religious sentiments of the Buddhist community and also a statue of Guru Padmasambhava or Guru Rinpochi. A Handloom center welcomes the tourists and covers the tourist’s places, and many Village festivals marks the importance of this Monastery and rituals performed at regular intervals. Also, one can notice Chaam as the most important and famous dance performed with masks on their faces. It is pertinent to add that this monastery is also the base of the Green Lake Trekking and climbing of mountains is one of their main activities.

Apple Orchard, Blue pine hotel, Himalayan Residency and Sonam Palgey Lachen are some of the tourist hotels where one can find a comfortable stay. Also as a tourist spot one can visit the Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary which is situated nearby.

Tourists can go this place, by engaging cabs as also buses from within Sikkim however, outstation tourists, should go for a Train or Flight which is possible to comfortably go over from any city in West Bengal State.
