Uttarakhand Skeleton Lake
Lakes are the most beautiful part of Himalayan ranges in Uttarakhand between glaciers and natural splendors. There are many lakes present in the valley of Himalaya which are distinctly known for various reasons and religious believes. One of the most popular and well known lake names is skeleton lake also known as “Roopkund”.
History
It has become more popular in the era of 1942 when more than five hundred of human skeleton were found from the periphery of this river. By making various researches and carbon dating process with different groups of scientists and archeologist, it has been assumed that these skeletons or people may have got died collectively due to some natural disaster like snowstorm, avalanche or some kind of epidemics. The carcasses found from skeleton lake are estimated through carbon dating and other practical scientific tests that they may belongs to the past era of twelfth to fifteenth centaury.
Attractions
Skeleton lake or Roopkund is generally remains in frozen or iced form most of the time in a year and that is why it is also known as glacial lake. It is situated at the height of around 5029 mt. above from the sea level. It is a most attractive and probing destination for tourists and most of the tourists like to undergo with the amazing trekking experience in the lap of the natures splendor. Roopkund is located in between the two peaks of the Himalayan range know as “Trishul”, which is around 7120 mt. above the sea level and “Nandghungti”, which is near about 6310 mt. from sea level. This place is still under the long lasting care of nature and that is why there is still no road link and it requires trekking for three-four days continuously so that one can reach at this heavenly place. Skeleton lake also holds a significant aspect in the means of religious believes and many religious as well as traditional activities takes place at this tourist spot, time-to-time. One of the famous religious ceremony known as “Rajjat Yatra”, held annually at this place, which attracts more and most of the tourists towards it.

Couple of temples and one small lake is also here which adds some other points of attractions to the tourists at this route. After that Bhaguwabasa is next point, from ten to eleven kilometer distance from Bedni Bugyal and after that straight Roopkund or skeleton lake can be accessed.
