Punjab Kanjli Wetland
This wetland has officially earned the prestigious national status in the year 1992 by adjoining this wetland in the lists of all wetlands with national importance which has added an extra wing to the rich heritage of Punjab, the reserve posses an enormous tourist value and attracts numerous tourists every year. In short kanji wetland is a perfect example of sumptuous natural heritage of Punjab. Kanjli is the part of the Harike wetland situated amidst the Beas river basin. It also serves as a peaceful home for several migratory birds.
History
This wetland is said to have been a patronage of late maharaja of kapurthala,raja Ranadhir Singh (1862-1870) the maharaja known to be a passionate nature lover constructed this eye warming beauty named kanjli wetland after embanking the river Kali bein, one of the numerous flourishing and culturally rich river of punjab , their rivulets and the tributaries is found to merge up in this mighty kali being river that later penetrates into this lake.
Main Attraction
Its a privilege to all the nature lovers to visit this man made kanjli wetland, surprisingly despite of this sanctuary termed as “man-made” this is a sheer pleasure to be feel as a naturism. The lake gleams under the golden sunrays like a mirage of some divine painting
On the left bank of this sanctuary there is a dense forest found, enriched with several species of wild life and to gear up the resource there is the dark wilderness of the forest making it more captivating for the adventure lovers.

Kanjli wetland is also known to be a very popular fishing point in addition to it you can enjoy an enjoyable boating spree
During dipawali there is a”mela” held on the bank of this sanctuary.
Flora And Fauna
There are several floras and fauna found engulfing the wetland. The species of floras found here are

There are also several species of shrubs and herbs found like Calotropis procera saccharum munja and others. Numerous Aqua floras and aqua fauna are also found adding up to the beauty of this wetland. Tortoise is the most common reptile found in kanjli wetland.
Present Condition
According to some recent reports numerous dead fishes have been found on the bank of kanjli wetland. The state fisheries depertment claims that the aquatic life of this sanctuary is almost at the verge of its extinct path due to low oxygen existence in the kali being river.
How To Reach
The kanjli wetland is around 4km from the kapurthala town and is well connected throughout the country by road. Amritsar international airport is the nearest airport and kapurthala bus station is close to the airport. There are regular state transport buses and private transport available from kapurthala to kanjli wetland. There are number of resort and hotels build up amidst the breathtaking backdrop of kanjli wetlands.
