History
History holds a very innate place in building up the heritage of every tourist spot, be that natural or man made. Unlike other beautiful tourist spots in Mizoram , Tam dil also holds a rich historical value.
There is a popular myth according to folklore, years ago there was a couple living in this valley doing there own jhum cultivation. They were known to be a very loving couple living and working together. After some time the husband died and the wife was left over all alone and had to look after the crops alone as well, there was a mustard tree in the middle of the field, where the couple used to grow various crops. once the widow had a dream where her husband came and after having a brief conversation hetold her to take special care of the mustard tree which can bring prosperity to her. And will be a sign of good luck to the valley. Form the very next day onwards according to her husband’s request the widow started pampering and nourishing the mustard tree which grows up to be a flourishing big tree and thrived very well, it truly brought wellbeing and prosperity not only to her but also to the entire village,
After few years the widow remarried and her new husband turned out to be a kind of envious person, slowly he came to know about the history of the mustard tree, he didn’t like the fact that this tree holds a big part in engraving her wife’s ex-man’s memory in her life, he did not want to coddle any thing that would remind the woman of her previous husband. He forcefully uprooted the plant and threw it away. Water gushed out forthwith from hole left out and within a few while the valley left out to be a huge lake.
