Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Wetland
The Bhoj Wetland is the man made reservoir. And it consists of two lakes upper and the lower lake. The upper lake has spread on the area of 31 km, and it has the watershed of 361 km. The watershed is in the rural area with some urban area. And lower lake is spread over the area of 9.6 km and it is mostly in urban parts. It has the catchment also. From the upper lake it receives the subsurface seepage. It is very beautiful place to visit for the visitor who wants to calm down in the lapse of nature. It is enriched with flora and fauna. It is important source for the commercial p purpose like fishing. It has been designated as Ramsar site in the year of 2001 in the month of November. As it is unique man made wetland and it has the characteristic of Central Indian plateau region. You can find almost 106 species of the flora and fauna here. So it is the amazing place as it has the wide variety of the flora and fauna may be other places do not have.
History
The upper lake was fashioned in the 11th century. It was constructed by building the earthen dam across the river of the Kolan. And the lower lake was constructed two centuries before. The upper lake is created by the king Bhoj in the year of 1005-1055. He was the ruler of the Malwa. The Bhopal city was established by him for the security of the eastern frontier.
And the lower lake was created by the Nawab Chhote Khan in the year of 1974. And he was the minister. The lower lake used to beautify the city. Upper lake is enclosed with Van Vihar National Park in the direction of the south, and in the direction of the east and north [people use to reside there and in the west side you can find many agricultural field. So this place is fantastic place as every direction is enclosed with the proper planning.
Major Attractions
The first and the foremost unique thing of the Bhoj wetland are in itself. It has been given the designation as Ramsagar Site due to various reasons as it has the attribute of the Central India Plateau region. It corresponds near to natural wetland.
Flora and the Fauna
The bhoj Wetland has the wide variety of the flora and the fauna. It gives the shelter and the food that why it becomes an ideal habitat for the diverse flora. It has the biotic interaction and the natural selection process which helps to make liaison between the vegetation and the avifauna. You can observe more than 20,000 birds in this lake. The variety of birds you can find like White Stork, spoon bill, goose etc. And you can also find more than 100 to 120 cranes in the lake. The crane is the largest bird of India. It has biodiversity values it has 106 species of the flora like macrophytes, phytoplankton, Chlorophyceae, Dinophyceae etc. and in the case of fauna you can see Zooplankton like protozoa, copedoda, Ostracode, Coleoptera, Dipteral Fishes are also found in great number.
How to reach
The Bhopal city is well connected with air, water and the road. So you can reach this lake easily and conveniently. You can find many state transport bus for the lake. It is well connected with daily airline service. The tourist can find number of the train to reach the lake. Bhopal city is connected with regular flight to Mumbai, Indore, Delhi, and Gwalior.
