Kerala Kuttanad Lake
This Lake has the pride to be the longest in India. This is also the largest one in entire Kerala state.This lake is known with different names at various places of the state.Punnamada lake is called in Kuttand, Kochi Lake is called in Kochi. The Kochi port is constituted of two small islands. One is Willingdon and another is Vallarpadam. In one portion of this lake, the famous Nehru Boat race is organized every year. In the Kuttand region area, the pollution level was found to be most and thus danger alarms were raised by the State Pollution Control Authority in 1994. Backwater of this lake has reported with various dangerous contaminations.
History
This lake is also known as Punnamada Lake in Kuttand region. District Alappuzha is the main center of this lake.This is the portions of this lake where Nehru Boat Race is organized every year.In the district Kochi, a separate portion of Vembanad Lake exists and called as Kochi Lake.This lake serves the purpose of a Port for Kochi district.The water and wetland system of Vembanad Lake covers the area of more than 2033 square kilometers. Thus this lake becomes the largest wetland in the country. Entire area covered by this lake is located less than 1 mtrs from mean sea level. Reason of this measurement is that MSL is taken from Chennai and the lake is located in Karnataka. This lake is normally situated at sea level and the land barrier of very narrow area made the lake separate from Arabian Sea.
Tourist Attraction
During last few years, this lake has become a good tourist place as required amenities have been made available at this place by the state government. Kumarakom tourist village, situated on the banks of this lake has very natural scenic beauty and the most attractive place. A bird sanctuary is also located at Kumarakom. In the Ramsar convention, this lake was identified and considered one of the largest wetlands of India.
Salt Water Barrier
A barrier, which is made of salt is the uniqueness of this lake.This barrier was constructed with the help of Kuttand Development Scheme. This area is also known as the largest regulator of mud in the country. All the gates of the lake are opened throughout the year and normally in July, the original gates are opened the regulate the water flow. This lake has been noticed with increasing population of water hyacinth.

By Air
Kochi and Kuttand both have airports and a person can de-board at any of the airports.Both are nearby and road transports are available from both the places.
By Rail
No issues as all major trains are available till this station.
By Road
National Highway and various state highways are also available to access this lake.Beside these roads, various link roads are also available to reach this place. From Kochi, not more than 43 kilometers will have to be travelled.
