Ranchi Zoo
Considered most sought after zoo of India due to its beauty and wide range of animals, Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park, Ranchi is an undisputed landmark in the Jharkhand state’s Ranchi city. History
Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park, Ranchi was established on Ranchi-Ramgarh line of the National Highway-33 inaugurated for the masses on January 26, 1994. Its location is at approximately 20 km from the main Ranchi city of Jharkhand. This park is divided into two sections including Botanical Section and Zoological Section. According to estimations nearly 4 lakh visitors visit this zoo throughout the year. As it has sufficient natural vegetation and large moated areas animal inmates stay in the biological park in the open as if staying in a natural habitat. Planned strategies have eased growth and expansion of this zoo since launch.

Visitor Information
Clock Room
- Rate: Rates per item are displayed at the notice board
- Timing: 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM
- Ensure your luggage is carefully locked for safety and security before you deposit to leave for zoo.
- You shouldn’t leave valuable stuffs in luggage like cash, jewelry or any costlier electronic items. Cloak Room won’t guarantee their safety.
- Once locked carefully make it a point that luggage safety key is with you.
- Produce authorized coupon which Cloak Room staff issued to you upon luggage submission to return it back. If coupon is lost accidentally then Cloak Room staff reserves the right to deny handing over the stuffs. They return luggage back upon producing documents to authenticate identity.
Dos and Don’ts
- Visitors are advised not to feed animals. Doing it is strictly prohibited. Animals receive diet which is balanced and according to their daily needs. You can spoil animal health through overfeeding. They might even die due to wrong food.
- It is heinous crime to tease animals inside the zoo.
- Visitors are advised not to cross barriers for their own safety and possible clawing or biting by animals that lead to serious injuries.
- Make sure you haven’t damaged trees and lawns or flower plants.
- Playing music is strictly prohibited inside the zoo hence visitors are not allowed to play radio or recorded musical instruments.
- Bringing pets or firearms and weapons is not allowed inside the zoo.
- Ensure you throw waste items in the garbage or dustbins only.
- Bringing polythene or packets isn’t allowed inside the zoo.
Some Basic Information Must Read
- Have a look on display board in front of zoo where basic details are available including information about entrance fee to what to do and what not to do inside the zoo.
- Use zoo’s parking area located nearby its entrance by paying nominal fee.
- A keen look on directional and orientation signage at every important point in zoo premises makes it easy to have best movement in least time. One can have a look on Map of zoo present on the important locations.
- For guidance and information of every visitor, each animal enclosure has details through signage to learn the basic details.
- Make payment at ticket window of zoo for Zoo Guide Map. Entrance fee of foreign visitors includes cost of map as well hence they get that along with tickets. One may approach the office of Director of Zoo to obtain other publications produced by zoo management on any working day.
- Zoo visitors are advised to use Walking Trails available inside the zoo for a look on animals on foot. Those with wheel chairs may also use such trails.
- Toilets and urinals are available on different locations inside the zoo.
- Moving on foot is best way to have a look on animals inside the zoo. Many visitors are not in the position to walk on trails so they can hire pollution free Battery Operated Trolleys to avail their services.
- All visitors are advised to keep sufficient drinking water before entry into zoo. Some stalls have been established inside zoo as well where visitors may buy water bottles.
- As per the instructions by zoo authorities visitors are strictly prohibited to carry eatables inside. Such steps have been taken by considering animal safety and security needs. Visitors may buy refreshments like tea, coffee, water bottle or rest stuffs at specified sales outlets inside the zoo.
- Authorities instruct every visitor to use dustbins to maintain cleanliness. It is everybody’s responsibility.
- Several places inside the zoo have specified rain shelters.
- Use resting benches kept in many places inside the zoo for rest. Such benches are placed nearby toilets and animal enclosures to the points where drinking water is available.
- Those visitors needing wheel chairs can approach zoo staffs to collect such chairs at the entrance itself. This service is free of cost but users are asked to return them back once used before coming out of zoo area.
- Medical aid facilities are available in zoo premises as First Aid facilities for instant treatments of possible injuries that visitors might have at many occasions. Approach below mentioned places to receive First Aid services.
