Sitapur, a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh lies in Lucknow division. As the name suggests, this holy place was named after Sita , wife of Lord Rama. Sitapur was set up by king Vikramaditya.

The Hindu tradition depicts that Rishi Ved Vyas had written all the Puranas in this ancient place. Sitapur relates to the prehistoric, medieval as well as the contemporary history. The place covers a spread of 5,734 kilometer square.

Sitapur is encircled by the Kheri District as well as by River Ghagra and Gomati. It is situated on the gangetic plain having an altitude of about one fifty meters above the sea level. The chief occupation of this place is agriculture. The important crops that are grown in Sitapur are rice, wheat, urad, groundnut, mustard and sugarcane.
