It is situated 125 km north east of the state capital of Lucknow. Gonda is divided into four Tehshil named Gonda, Kololelganj, Tarabganj and Mankapur. The main occupation of the people in the district is farming. Agricultural produce include wheat, paddy, different pulses, oil seeds and sugarcane. 

History:

The district was a part of Kosala. The first Muslim invasion took place in second quarter of 11th century.  In the second half of the 13th century Gonda was included in the government of Bahraich by the early Muslim rulers. People from the Gonda district actively participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi. The present town of Gonda was established by Man Singh, a Bisen Rajput.

Geography:

It is located at longitude of 81 degrees east and latitude of 27 degrees north and height of 120 m above sea level.  The Ghaghara river splits Gonda district into two parts - the northern and southern part. The town of Gonda falls in the northern part with Ghaghara bordering the district's entire southern boundary.
