The city of Faizabad was initially known as Fyzabad which is situated in Eastern India on the bank of River Saryuand 130 k.m. from Lucknow.  Faizabad has a twin city of Ayodhya, which is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Ram. Faizabad is a place of sugar refineries and mills for extracting oil from seeds. It is a market center for the produce of the surrounding area, including grain, oilseeds, cotton, and tobacco.  Ayodhya, which is among the principal religious centers of India, is an important place of Hindu pilgrimage. 

History:
In 1730 Ali Vadi Khan who was considered as Nawab of Bengal founded Faizabad. Awadh was made its capital by Shuja-ud-daula. Faizabad was first known as Bangla. In 1764 Shuja-ud-Daula also built a fortress on the banks of Saryu after he lost the battle of Buxar. Faizabad was also a centre of one of many battles of the Mutiny of 1857. Later on Nawab Asaf-ud-daula shifted capital to Lucknow to Faizabad.

Geography:

Longitude is 82 degree east, latitude 26 degree north and height 97 meters above the sea level. It has the area of 88 sq km.

District’s cultural heritage is linked with Suryavanshi kingdom which includes golden period of Lord Rama. He was well known for his virtues like mercy, bravery and determination. Handmade paper Units, the Artisans, Leather work and clothes are the prominent craft culture here.
