This is the easternmost district of Bundelkhand and division has been done by splitting Banda district, tahsil and block-wise.  The economy of Banda district is based mainly on agriculture. 

History:

District took active participation during non-cooperation movement, swadeshi movement and boycott of British goods in 1920. Furthermore, great revolutionary Chandra Shekhar Azad guided people with his tactics of arms, ammunition and finance. People also participated in Satyagrah movement against recruitment in army during Second World War. Around fifty nine persons were convicted by district authorities.

Demographics:

• District has the population of 1,500,253 as per 2001 census.

Geography:

According to the district statistical department the district covered an area of 340 sq. km. District is located at longitude 80 degree East and latitude 24 degree north. There are mainly three rivers in the district namely Ken, Baghain and Yamuna.

Culture:

• The seasonal folk-songs commonly sung in the villages are Hori or Phag during spring. Bhajan-Kirtan in a chorus accompanied with musical is very much liked by inhabitants of the district. 
• There are many fairs organized here such as Chilla fair, Bilgav fair, Kalinjar fair, etc.
