Maharashtra Bor Tiger Reserve
Bor Wildlife Sanctuary is a renowned wildlife park in India which is situated in Maharashtra. Covering an area of 121.1 sq kms, this tiger reserve is a home to different birds and animals. Owning to the unchecked population of human civilization, the lives of these wildlife creatures residing in Bor Tiger Reserve has become threatening. To save the life of these animals, precise ecological programs have been undertaken.
Bor Tiger Reserve is located in isolated hills of Wardha valley that lie in the foot hills of Satpuda. This sanctuary derives its name from the river Bor which meanders together with the central portion of this reserve like serpent and segments the reserve in two parts. This tiger reserve covers an area of 121.10 sq kms.
History
Bor Tiger Reserve is spread on an area of 121.1 sq kms. It came into being after the notification of the Maharashtra government in the year 1970. This sanctuary represents the flora and fauna of varied forms of Satpuda Maikal landscape. Earlier this was a game reserve but then in the year 1970, it was given the status of national park or wildlife sanctuary. This was done purposely to conserve and safeguard the rich biodiversity while support the dense population of panther and tigers.
In the year 2012, Maharashtra government issued a notice and added additional 60 kms to the old 61.1 kms which now makes it to 121.10 kms. The state government has declared different zones for this tiger reserve – eco-tourism zone, new core zone, and buffer zone.

The climate at Bor Tiger Reserve is pleasant all throughout the year. You can visit the reserve at any time during the year. Noteworthy, the tiger reserve remains closed from 16th June to 30th September due to monsoon season.

The ideal time to visit Bor Tiger Reserve is during April to May.

Flora and Fauna
Flora
Bor Tiger Reserve comprises of excellent teak bearing forests coupled with natural associates and incredibly valuable mixed deciduous forests. There are different kinds of herbs which one can find here like Waghori, Velatri, Vanbhandi, Wight, Gokhru, Tarwar, Tenella, and Tarota. One can also get to see bamboo trees at different places of this reserve. The ecozone of Bor Tiger Reserve has many main species like Ain, Teak, and Tendu.
Fauna
Mammals
Bor Tiger Reserve is rich in its bio diversity. Mammals which are commonly found here are wild dogs, sloth bear, monkey, wild boar, barking deer, mouse deer, peacock, Sambar deer, chital, blue bull, Indian bison, Indian leopard, and Bengal Tigers.
Reptiles
This tiger reserve is a home to 26 different species of reptiles which belong to 11 families. Out of these 6 species are endangered and these are monitor lizard, chequered keelback, Indian rat snake, Indian rock python, Russel’s viper, and Indian cobra.
Birds
You would find more than 160 species of birds which belong to 46 families of sixteen varied orders. This further includes 9 endangered species and 10 species of migratory birds.

Timings
The Bor Tiger Reserve is open from Tuesday to Sunday, however on Monday this sanctuary remains closed.
