Uttar Pradesh Sri Radha Govinda Temple
The Vrindavan city draws tourists from all over the country and world too. It is believed that Lord Krishna had spent most of his memorable life in this place with Radha. Sri Radha Govindji is one of the many temples in this holy city which speaks volumes of how Krishna spent his life with Radha. The temple is dedicated to the deity of Govindji. The magnificent marvel attracts tourists from all across the globe.
History
Srila Rupa Goswami built the temple under the instruction of the great Sri Chaitanya. The aim was to excavate each and every holy place which was lost in Vrindavan. Many years before all this, Lord Krishna'' a ranch child built many deities in this area, one of which was Govindaji. Rupa searched helter and skelter but failed to locate the deity. Feeling sad that he could succeed at the job at hand, he sat on the bank of the Yamuna and cried his heart out. Suddenly Krishna appeared as a boy who lead Rupa Goswami to the milk giving cow who always emptied her udders in a hole. When Rupa looked back, the boy vanished and after seeing the hole he fainted. On excavation of that area, he came across the deity of Govindaji.
Architecture
The construction of this temple came underway under the bale guidance for the great Raja Man Singh of Jaipur was back in 1570. The temple initially had 7 stories with beautiful altars laced with silver and articulate gold. An eye-catching Lotus sits in the hall for decoration purposes. It is rumored that this lotus weighs in tones. Akbar's men built the temple under the instructions given by a General; Rupa Goswami. The deities who are seated at the altar are of Lord Chaitanya to the left of Govindji. To Govindji right is Lord Nityannda. Beneath, one can see smaller idols of Radha and Lord Krishna. Below these deities one can see Jagannath.
As of now only two stories remain which were once 7 because Aurangzeb ordered the temple be destroyed.
How To Reach
By Road
Buses are available to the temple from Delhi and Mathura. The distance from Mathura is a mere 15kms.
Local Transport
Rented cars, taxis, auto-rickshaws are available.
Significance Of The Temple
Lord Krishna spent most of his childhood and best times with Radha at this very place.
Timings And Other Important Information
The temple timings range from 7:30 am to 10:30 am and 5:30 to 7:30 pm for summer Darshans while in the winters, the Darshan takes place from 8 to 11:30 am and 4:30 to 7:30 am.
Weather And Time To Visit
It is best to visit during August to October for then the Monsoons shall have receded.
