Tamilnadu Adiratneswarar Temple
Near Devakotai-Sivaganga highway, a magnificent Shiva temple is established called Adiratneswarar. This sacred Hindu worship place is considered among the oldest Shiva temples in the district. The temple is not only renowned for its religious significances but also for its incredible architecture. The temple structure is divided into two sections, first one is exterior section and second one is interior section. Inside the interior section, an idol of Lord Adiratneswarar who is believed to be one of the incarnations of Lord Shiva installed.
History
However, there is no proper history and evidence available regarding the construction date and origin of the temple yet it is believed that it was constructed centuries ago by a Hindu king. The temple is famous for celebrating Mahashivaratri, a festival devoted to Lord Shiva. Hence, during the festival time, followers of Lord Shiva gather near the temple to have sacred Darshan and blessings of God. According to legend, once a saint called Vinodacharya Swami visited at the location wherein present temple situated. He worshipped lord Shiva and performed his penance at this place. It is said that he was granted Moksha or ultimate salvation by Lord Adiratneswarar.
Weather and time to visit
Tiruvadanai city is very hot and humid during summer; the highest temperature recorded is 29 to 42 degree Celsius. Moreover, average temperatures during January have been recorded 27 degree Celsius, February - 28 degree Celsius and March - 30 degree Celsius. Monsoon usually starts from the month of July. So, the best time to get there is from the month of October to February.
