Odisha Kartikesvara Siva Temple Bhubaneswar
Kartikesvara Siva Temple is situated at a very short distance of 100 meters from eastern entry of famous Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar. The structure is located on left side of temple road originating from Lingaraj to Garej Chowk within the region of Gandhi Garabadu. Gandhi Garabadu is the chief priest of the temple. It is considered a living temple with thousands of worshippers and devotees visiting the temple every year during important Hindu festivals and rituals. The temple was built in 13th Century AD. The Jagamohana is actually a pidha deul and vimana is full rekha deul. Kartikesvara Siva Temple was constructed during the prominent Ganga period.

History

The shrine walls are simple and plain. Doorjambs of jagamohana are carved with 3 plain perpendicular bands measuring 1.59 mtrs in elevation and 1.35 mtrs in breadth. At lalatabimba, Gajalaxmi is presiding on lalitasana bordered by two elephants standing on full lotus. Lintel: the architecture over the doorjamb is engraved with the customary navagraha.
Top quality laterite building material is utilized in the making of Kartikesvara Siva Temple. The overall architecture and building style resembles Kalingan genre. The gandi is ornamented with special bhumi amlas and angasikharas. As the shrine is pancharatha in plan pilasters are also engraved according to aspancharatha.
