Odisha Jalesvara Temple Bhubaneswar
Jalesvara Temple is a renowned Hindu temple in Bhubaneswar devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple is located on the southern periphery of Kalarahanga village. The temple is ideally located at a distance of 6 km south of Chudangagada and 3 km from Patia in Bhubaneswar. The current divine being is actually Sivalingam within a spherical yonipitha in the chamber. Sivalingam in Jalesvara Temple is 1.16 meters above the chandrasila. The holy chamber measures 2 sq meters. The main attraction of the temple is that it is a wonderful living temple. According to past chronicles Chudangagada King was an avid worshipper of Lingaraja. The king made it a habit to visit Lingaraja daily. It was very difficult to travel to Lingara during monsoon period, therefore the lord advised the king in his dream to make a temple in the middle of an adjacent lotus pond. Lord Lingaraja used to reside as Jalasayi in this attractive lotus pond. The King obeyed the wish of Lord Lingaraja by making the current temple, which is situated on the western bank of the impressive Jalesvara pond.
History
In order to execute different types of rituals and other related activities, the king donated massive land grants to Sevayatas and Brahmins of Rahanga. Therefore, the place is called Kalarahanga. A big compound encircles the four sides of Jalesvara Temple. There is an impressive Jalesvara pond on the eastern side and attractive paddy fields on the northern side. The adjacent depressions in the fields signify that originally the shrine was bordered by water completely on all the sides. The holy water has its presence in several local legends. Jalesvara Temple has a unique vimana, jagamohana and an attractive antarala. At the same time, it has a wonderful nata-mandira.
The antarala measures 1.3 meters, vimana 5.4 square meters, and jagamohana 9 square meters expanding the projections of handrail windows. On an elevation, vimana is actually rekha having customary gandi, bada, and mastaka measuring 12 metres from kalasa to khura.

Biju Patnaik International Airport at Bhubaneswar is an ideal place to reach Jalesvara Temple. The airport is just 5 kms away from main city. Tourists can easily hire a pre-paid taxi or cab from the airport to reach the temple. The airport is conveniently connected with New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and other metros.
By Rail
Bhubaneswar railway station is conveniently located within the heart of city. Bhubaneswar is well connected with Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and other metros through daily, bi-weekly and weekly trains. You can easily take a pre-paid taxi or bus from the railway station. There are many private and government buses that ply on Bhubaneswar-Jalesvara route. The taxi and bus fare is very nominal.
By Road
New Bus Stand is ideally situated at a distance of 5-6 km from main city. There are many government and private buses that operate daily from Bhubaneswar to Jalesvara. The buses connect well to other main cities around Bhubaneswar. The city is well connected to Puri and Konark by regular bus services.
Significance Of The Temple
According to local customs Jalesvara Temple was actually constructed by Padma Keshari, one of many Keshari emperors. However, this custom does not match the genealogical traditions of Somavamsis. Several noteworthy rituals like Sivaratri, Siva Vivaha, Janmastami, Chandana Yatra, Dolapurnima, Sitalasasthi and Pindadana re observed. On the other hand, several social functions like thread ritual, marriage ceremony, marriage engagement and mundanakriya are performed.

Bhubaneswar offers pleasant tropical savanna weather with temperature difference between different seasons. However, the perfect time to visit and explore Jaleswara temple is from October to March. The overall climate during October and March is very favorable for visiting and exploring the temple. March to June is generally dry and hot. This season should be avoided for outings. Moreover, June to September is ideal for visiting the attractions around the temple. Season from October to February is very enjoyable and advised for outings and trips for exploration of Janesvara temple.
