Jagannath Temple of Baripada is one of the holiest temples of Lord Jagannath in Odisha. It is situated at the bank of Baripada, Mayurbhanj. The temple is one of the oldest Jagannath temples in Orissa after Puri. In this temple, for more than 500 years, the people and the devotees have been celebrating the Rath Yatra. They work wholeheartedly to make it a grand pilgrimage.
Jagannath Temple, Baripada is unique it is because during the time of Rath Yatra, the women devotees pull the rath of Devi Subhadra. It is also called the car festival.
History
Baripada Jagannath Temple lays back its history to 1575 A.D. It is also regarded as one of the oldest temples of Lord Jagannath in the state of Orissa. This temple is famous as ‘Bada Jagannath’ temple among the people. On the wall of the temple, there are few lines inscribed dating its time and period.
Jagannath Temple was built by the king Baidhyanath Bhanja. Also, the paintings and the art had been craved on the wall to make it more beautiful and attractive.
