Bata Mahadev temple is famous with the name of Mukteswara Shiva temple also that has been devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple of Bata Mahadev is considered as one of the most historical temple in Bhubaneswar that is also famous as the temple city of India and is considered as the city well known for its traditions.
The temple is situated in the center of Bindusagar road that connects the Kedar-Gauri lane and the Lingaraja temple. The temple faces towards the north direction. The deity worshipped in the temple is the Shiva Lingam that is surrounded by a round yoni pitha that has made out of sandstone.
History
The history of the temple is linked to the story when Lord Shiva met EkamraNagari and has rested at his place and due to the location of the temple in the center of the road it has been named as Bata Mahadev. The temple has been declared as the public property rather that it being owned as private owners. The administration of Lingaraja temple is responsible for the smooth functioning and maintenance of the Bata Mahadev temple.

The architectural history of the temple reveals that it has been constructed in 15th to 16th century CE. The typology to which the temple belongs is that of Pidha Deul and has been made of concretes. The main reason for which the temple is worshipped is the pidha that is offered to the ancestors.
The temple has been preserved against the harms of changing environmental conditions.
