Odisha Barunesvara Siva Temple
The direction of the shrine is towards west. The treasured idol of deity consist of a ruined lingam of the deity that is located in the round Yonipitha that has been located in the middle of the altar that is situated at a distance 1.07 meters that lies below the current level of ground.
The deity in the temple is named as Purvesvara by the local people of the area; this name is given because the deity in the temple is faced towards the east. The other names of the temple that are located here are the Uttartesvara facing north, Barunesvara that faces south while the Paschimesvara is located in west. Purvesvara Temple Development Association takes acre about the maintenance of the temple.
The temple is located in the KanchaSahi that is believed to be a part of old town in Bhubaneswar and can be approached from the road that is situated towards the eastern direction of the Lingaraja temple. Towards the left side is the road that is connected to Garejchowk.
History
The temple is considered to have been built in the 13th century AD. The design of the original shrine is not very certain as it has been ruined over a period of time but still the remains in the temple shows that it has been constructed in the style of pidha. All these characteristics prove that the construction of the temple was done during the advanced phase of the temple that was built in Orissa.
