Odisha Banthia Jagannath Temple
Sri Srinath Bhanjdeo King constructed the temple Banthia Jagannath while his ruling period from 1863 to 1867. The idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra are worshipped in this temple.
Baripada city has total 2 Jagannath temples. The temple that is bigger is responsible for proceeding the car festival that consist of three chariot and the car festival of the smaller temple that is named as Banthia Jagannath or the other name is dwarf god organizes the car festival using only one chariot that carries the idol to the Gundicha temple.
The fascination of the city is the Rathayatra that is organized every year in the city of Baripada. This Rathayatra is organized on the day Dwitiya that falls on the Shuklapakshya Asdhana or in the month of July in second week. The celebration consists of two rathas in which one ratha has idols of the deities Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra while the second Ratha has the idol of Subhadra. The idols of the deities are allowed to take rest for an entire evening before the idols of Lord Balabhadra’s chariot or Taladhwaja are moved to the Gundicha temple and the idol of deity Devi Subhadra’s is taken to the Grand road. The third day both the chariots are moved back to Gundicha temple. After this the laddoos are from the chariots are thrown towards the deities. The chariots are accompanied only by the women that display their empowerment and goes as back as to year 1975.
