The temple has been built in the thirteenth century and the idols worshipped in the temple are of Krishna, Balaram and Subhadra. The idol of Balaram is paced under the serpent with seven hoods while Subhadra’s idol is depicted by holding a pot of jewel in one hand while the other hand has a lotus flower and the left foot of the idol is placed on the another pot of jewels. The idol of Krishna holds the scepter, a chakra, a lotus flower and the conch.
Architecture
The architecture of the temple is very similar to that of Lingaraj temple and has the idols of Lord Vishnu named as vaishnavite. There are many large groups of small shikharas that very much resemble to the Lingaraj temple with the only differences in number of shikharas not exceeding three. The walls on the external of the temple have been decorated with different female characters that do not feel like original and are excessively ornate and these outer walls on all the temples in Bhubaneswar looks similar.
