Manipur Lord Sanamahi Temples
The Lord Sanamahi Temple is situated in town of Imphal in the foremost Manipur Rifle Ground.
Sanamahism refers to the worship of Sanamahi, the Creator of SidabaMapu, also called as the Meeteis’s trinity God. Sanamahism has been regarded as one of the ancient sects of South Asia. It got its origin in the Indian state of Manipur and is basically practiced by the communities such as Meeteis, Zeliangrong and Kabui along with inhabitants of Assam, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Bangladesh and Myanmar having their small populations in the countries such as United Kingdom, Canada and United States.
History
It got patronized by the ruler Kulachandra in the year 1891.
Architecture
The structure of the temple is formed of bricks having a number of things for exploring the artistic designs in building the structure itself in an amazing architectural style and offering a stylizes figure for the double cornice. The Lord Sanamahi Temple is just one temple of Manipur having animistic faith and came into being basically for enshrining the animistic deity. The temple is also significant due to its variety of architecture that can be witnessed here.
The cornice lying below as well as above comprises of a sequence which is arranged in an array on top of the octagonal structure. The roof found has a pyramidal Gothic Style structure. The arches have an inclination of 45 degree for forming an octagonal structure which is tapering and remains truncated by Amalaka-sila, over it, in a kind of a circular disc. It has a pinnacle.
Important Shrines
The deity of Lord Sanamahi has been worshipped here in this temple. The rituals are in the form of traditional style of Hindus. The deity has been decorated in a Hindu style and the Puja system is based on methods of Hindus. The priest who performs the rituals is also dressed up like Hindu Pujaris and cannot be distinguished from a Hindu priest. The Puja is performed here on a regular basis everyday in the morning as well as evening during the Samdhyakala and Ushakala.
Significance of the Temple
There is a weekly puja which is held on Tuesday and is referred to as 'Sagalchham'. There are annual celebrations of the festival celebrated at the Lord Sanamahi temple at the time of 'Cheiraoba' which is the festival celebrated by the people of Manipur every year and festival being celebrated in the month of September here is known as Honjnungha.
