Maharashtra Shree Yamai Devi Temple
Yamai Devi temple is situated in Maharashtra state’s Ahmednagar district’s Taluka Karjat, Rashin. The temple is dedicated to the Devi who is considered to be even more powerful the Trimurthis. This just goes on to prove the power and the deity of this temple and this explains the crowds that throng this temple to pay visit to Yamai Devi.
History
According to the folklore related to the temple, the earth and all its beings were troubled by the demons and there was no place for justice or good things in this earth and it was a tough time for all living things here. The demons were being led by Rakta Beej and he had a very different boon where each drop of blood that was shed from his body could create another Rakta Beej. So, killing him was proving to be difficult and the whole universe prayed to Goddess Shakti to save the world and Yamai Devi came and drinking the blood of Rakta Beej killed him and restored peace in the world over.
Architecture
Yamai Devi temple has stunning architecture and has three towers. The temple is built in an elevated way with steps taking the pilgrims inside the temple. There is ample space in the temple. The crimson colored walls and the fine work on the pillars and the posts that are found in the temple talk volumes of the expertise of the builders.
How to Reach
By Air
Pune is the nearest airport to Rashin. Pune is well connected to all parts of the country and this makes it easier for the pilgrims to get to this temple. There are taxis that you can take from the airport to the temple.
By Rail
There are no other railways stations other than Pune Railway Station and this is about a hundred and twenty four kilometers away from the temple. There are local buses available Karmala which is about twenty four kilometers away and then from there you can take auto rickshaws.
Local Transport
Local transport buses are available from all the major cities of the state to Karmala and there are a lot of autos and private transport taxies that ply from the major cities to the temple.
Important Shrines
Other than the shrine for Yamai Devi, there is a shrine for Mata Tukai who was another form of Mother Shakti who had taken the avatar to kill Rakta Beej along with Yamai Devi. Both these forms of Shakti have promised to reside in this temple forever to take care of their devotees and protect them from any harm that they might incur because of the bad forces.
Significance of the Temple
Since Shakti had saved people from the demon king when even Mahadev, Vishnu or Brahma where not able to, this temple talk of the power of women. While Goddess Shakti chooses to kill Rakta Beej for the good of the people, she took pity on Sudrik, who was the minister of Rakta Beej and who understood his folly and surrendered to Shakti. So, anybody who repents for their mistakes is forgiven and accepted by the Goddess here.
Attractions
The fearful yet beautiful sculptures of the both Yamai Devi and Tukai Devi are the biggest attractions of this temple. The anger over the demon that was disturbing the common public, the compassion towards the people and the urgency to bring this to an end all comes through the sculptures of both these forms of the images and there are pilgrims come from all corners of the world to see these two forms of Shakti.
Timings and other Important Information
The temple is opened in the morning and the Mother is bathed in milk, curd, honey and mixed fruits juice every morning. Afternoons and evenings there is food that is presented to Her and this is distributed as prasad to the pilgrims. The nine days of Dussera are celebrated with grand fervor in this temple.

The best time to visit this temple is during the Dussera time as then there are a lot of special pujas that are performed.

The temple has accommodation facilities for the pilgrims who come visiting and these can be booked by calling the temple authorities.

Mother Shakti is very powerful and the prayers for goodness and justice to prevail are always answered. Also any prayers offered to mitigate any injustice are also listened to, so pilgrims who have such problems can visit this temple.
