Maharashtra Shakambari Devi Mandir
Satara district is not only famous for its unique culture and tradition but it also famous for its various significance Hindu temples. The prominent Shakambari Devi Mandir or temple is among one of them. The main presiding deity of this temple is Goddess Shakambari who is believed to be one of the incarnations of Goddess Ishwari. Remember, Ishwari Devi is a consort to Lord Shiva. Moreover, she is considered as the divine mother according to Hindu mythology.
History
Shakambari Devi temple was constructed by Maratha king Shivaji during eh 16th of century. The temple is among the most visited Devi temples in the state of Maharashtra. It is said that mother of Shivaji called Jijabai one day saw a dream regarding Goddess Shakambari. Hence, next morning she ordered her son king Shivaji to build a magnificent temple for Goddess Shakambari. However, according to local legend Shakambari Devi Mandir or temple is not only a Devi temple but it also a Gupta Shakti peeth or invisible female temple. Later the temple was renovated by various Peshwa and Maratha kings time to time.
Weather and time to visit
Satara district enjoys the tropical climate condition. It means during the winter, it becomes cold and chilly while in summer it becomes hot and humid. Hence, the best time to get there is from the month of March to October. However, devotees can also visit here during the festival of Navaratri.
